Haiti Kit Makers
At my church, we have a group called the Haiti Kit Makers. They had originally started after the 2010 earthquake that struck Haiti in order to help with the relief efforts. As time went on, the kits evolved into aid kits for women and children, especially hygiene kits. Haiti stopped taking aid a few years ago, and now the group sends feminine hygiene kits to Guatemala. I began helping during the summer with this project. Since I do not know how to sew, I was tasked with ironing and folding certain parts of the kits. I pressed so many pieces to these kits over the summer and at the beginning of the school year, totaling to about 10 hours. The kits are finished now, and will be sent out in January of 2020 to Guatemala.
Summer School French Teaching Assistant
During the summer of 2018, I helped to teach French to younger students. I was only able to go in a few days a week to help, since I was working at the same time, but went in usually three times a week for the two-hour sessions in June and July. I found this very rewarding, since it was exciting to see such young kids excited about learning a foreign language. The total time that I spent there was about 36 hours, but it never felt that long, since the kids were so excited and eager to learn more.
